Metallic Silhouette
St Charles Sportsman's Club Conducts Metallic Silhouette Matches
| During 2010, Silhouette matches will be conducted
on April 24, June 26, August 28, and September 25. Several
disciplines will be available, including Small Bore (.22LR with
targets at 25, 50, 70 and 100 yards) and Field Pistol (uses slightly
larger targets at the same range).
A legal Field Pistol is any pistol with a straight-walled case. Big Bore pistols can be any caliber that doesn’t damage the targets. Target distances are 50, 100, 150 and 200 yards. Air Pistol targets are set up much closer – no more than 25 yards. We will also work toward getting certification for NRA long range pistol cartridge cowboy lever action. This requires a tube-fed lever action rifle in a pistol cartridge. We have had a few shooters try this discipline and they have had fun doing it. Matches finish in mid-afternoon, after which the range is open for use by members. This is a great opportunity for members to earn their work hours. Any and all help is appreciated. |
IHMSA events include Big Bore, Small Bore, Field Pistol, and Air Rifle
NRA Events include long range pistol and cowboy lever action
2010 match fees are $ 7 per entry
The Maryland State Match will be held in September
Match setup starts at 7AM, and the first shooters are at the line at 8AM, and matches are generally concluded by mid-afternoon.

St. Charles Sportsman's Club The August match at St. Charles Sportsman's Club was full of nice surprises and plenty of good shooting. Despite the threat of Hurricane Bill we were able to get everyone through, The air was hot and steamy so it was a bit uncomfortable out on the line. Mike Crews, who was recently introduced to IHMSA by Jerry Arnold, the Match Director at Piedmont Sportsman's Club in Gordonsville, VA recorded his second perfect score in Big Bore. He seems to be a natural at the sport. As usual Boy Scout Troop 424 were our target setters and had lunch available for the shooters. They did an outstanding job, as usual and kept us right on schedule. We look forward to having them at the Maryland State Match on September 26. The backstop that Dick Chadwick designed and built for the small bore and field pistol chickens has been doing a fantastic job of helping keep most of the targets from getting lost in the brush behind the berm. We still misplace one every once in a while but without the backstop I'm sure we would have lost half of our inventory by now. I 'm hoping that once the leaves fall and the temperature cools off a bit that we can get a work party organized to help clear the brush out. That would help a lot to allow better visibility from the Creedmoor position. Russel Troup presented me with the 2009 President's Award on behalf of IHMSA. I was presented a certificate and a very nice pin to celebrate the award. I was taken completely by surprise by this honor and thank Lorene Thompson for nominating me and President Nancy La Croix for the award. I always knew the shooters appreciated having the matches and am glad that we have been able to help Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore get their program restarted and also provided some guidance and assistance to Piedmont to get more opportunities available for the shooters.
